It is my first time visiting Kofu. What are some of the things I can do here?

Kofu is in close proximity to Tokyo; lush nature, delicious fruits and rich history await just 90 minutes away from Shinjuku station by train or expressway bus. The city's main sightseeing spots are Shosenkyo gorge, known as one of the most beautiful in all of Japan; the fields of fresh peaches and pears in the summer, grapes in the fall and strawberries in the winter and spring, where you can go fruit picking at your leisure; and the numerous landmarks filled with history that trace all the way back to the warring states period, when famous warlord and Kofu hero Takeda Shingen reigned over the land.
Other spots that you will not want to miss include the famous Yumura hot-spring resort and the breathtaking views of the Kofu basin and Mt. Fuji from atop the various surrounding mountains, easily accessible from the city.

Located just a 3-minute walk away from Kofu station, Maizuru Castle Park is one of the best spots to enjoy early in the morning, as you can take in the entire scenery of the Kofu basin with Mt. Fuji and the Southern Alps in the distance from the observation platform at the top of the castle.
In the summer, you can escape from the heat by going on an refreshing, early morning hike to one of the 25 famous peaks of Kofu, for an amazing view of the Kofu basin from the top; the most easily accessible ones from the city center include Mt. Atago (Atagoyama Children's Park) and Mt. Hakusan.
